The job holder will be expected to become conversant with the personnel of, and the businesses conducted by, the internal departments and associated corporate entities to which he or she is allocated and will be required to provide legal advice and support that is relevant to the requirements of those businesses.
  • Act as subject matter expert within Group Legal for specific areas of legal work or legal knowledge, as allocated, and provide support in relation to those specific areas of law across the Group as well as to other lawyers and legal executives within Group Legal.

  • Monitor changes in domestic and international law (including aviation law) and advising on the legal aspects of operational issues. As relevant laws are constantly changing, and developing, the job holder will have to keep fully up to date by research and by monitoring legal publications.
  • Complete administrative tasks associated with the areas of responsibility above as well as the general operation of Group Legal, as allocated, from time to time.
  • Advise Group senior management on liability awareness, risk management procedures and legal requirements.
  • Manage and co-ordinating external legal resources and advising on the procurement of legal advice at overseas stations, including negotiation and monitoring of budgets and estimates for specific legal tasks, subject to approval by VP-Legal and SVP-Legal.
  • This position requires excellent organisational and negotiating skills and a flexible approach in order to balance conflicting business demands and to produce under pressure, high quality and practical, commercially orientated advice in response to tight deadlines. The job holder must be able to work productively as part of a team and to organise and lead both legal support teams (both internal and external) and commercial colleague teams in pursuit of the Group's commercial objectives. The job holder must be a good prioritiser. He or she must be goal orientated and adaptable to change. The job holder may also be required to monitor the work of any seconded lawyers working with him or her on projects and supervise the execution of legal work performed for him or her by legal executive resources in Group Legal. Overseas duty travel may be required from time to time.
  • The job holder reports to the VP-Legal or SVP-Legal as allocated and formally receives instructions from him or her.
