Job Purpose

Job Purpose:

To manage the complexities of the Resource and Roster Planning functions for one of the company?s most expensive resources; Emirates Flight and Cabin Crew. It is the responsibility of the job holder to ensure that all flights are crewed in strict accordance with Company and GCAA mandatory regulatory rules and crew are accurately informed of their scheduled duties on a monthly basis. Resource Planning includes; Manpower Planning, Pairing & Schedule Management, Training Planning & Roster Planning


Job Outline:

  • Generic
    -Train and develop Roster Planning & Leave Planning Officers imparting company processes and expectation, knowledge, technical skills and experience, so that a continuity of expertise exists within the section. Provide feedback and apply performance management principles.
    -To provide system development, support and liaise with various internal and external Vendors (EGIT, Kronos and Mint) to provide solutions and identify problems.
    -Recommend performance improvement measures through a continuous review of the allocation process through regular reports and provide in depth analysis / feedback on shift operations to Managers Crew Planning in order to achieve continuous improvement.
    -Co-ordinate with respective VP-Fleet and Fleet Managers for flight crew and Cabin Crew Managers: on regular basis and ensure that changes in pre-assigned management requirements (Emergency leave, long sickness and removal from the roster etc) are incorporated to reduce the amount of inefficiency after the roster publication.
    -To audit the roster and manpower solutions for quality checks before publication is an integral part of the position. This enables the jobholder to spot trends and make appropriate recommendations for change in systems and company process.
    -Generate detailed weekly and monthly reports for review and completion by the Manager Crew Planning prior to regular distribution to senior management. These reports provide an overview of past/present/future trends/forecasts in order to provide solid justification for the trend causal factors argued together with suggestions for corrective action.

  • Specific Manpower Planning
    -This is the focal point for all aspects of the resource development and is accountable for the adherence of all pilot manpower targets for the roster generation process.
    -The job holder is required to take the initiative to analyse rostering and manpower issues and suggest short term and long term solutions to resolve the issues.
    -Continually monitor adherence to the approved budget plan by generating and automating reports on budget vs. actual variability and the associated causal factors.
    -Generate the monthly Flight Crew Course Plan and liaise with a variety of stakeholders across the company where it will impact their areas (Flight Training, Flight Ops Selection, Accommodation, Fleet managers, etc.)
  • Specific Pairing & Schedule Management
    -Provide a cost-effective crew pairing solutions for the annual budget based on commercial schedules including changes and adhoc flying.
    -Work closely with the relevant internal and external teams to develop cost effective, optimized flight and cabin crew pairing solutions on monthly basis in accordance with company rules and GCAA regulations.
    -Coordinate with Commercial Planning to enable the crew planning department to incorporate all known schedule changes within the roster production period and offer recommendations for more optimal use of crew resource. This will reduce the instability of roster and loss of crew resource productivity.
    -Manage freighter schedules and provide efficient, cost-effective crew pairing solutions to ensure that the most optimal use of resources is planned, within company and GCAA regulations.
    -Liaise with EK Station Managers throughout the network and keep them updated with the changes in crew layover patterns particularly transition patterns due to major or minor schedule changes. Communicate positioning requirements to Crew Logistics and reservations.
    -Focal point to coordinate crewing process of inaugural flights on new routes and destinations.
  • Specific Training Planning
    -Forecast Training captains availability to ensure training resources are available to undertake training plan. Liaise with Crew planners when producing rosters to understand the training load vs operational requirement due to the nature of the flying of this complex fleet.
    -Develop training plans of active instructors and trainees scheduled for Transition / Upgrade courses in line with recurrent training programs. This is in close coordination with Flight Operation Training Department. The training plan has to be incorporated into the instructors and trainees rosters ensuring the most productive use of this limited resource.
    -Analyse Training rosters on ongoing basis and recommend improvements/changes in the process to increase efficiencies. Make recommendations to management in advance to enable the plan to be adjusted if operationally required.
  • Specific Roster Planning
    -To use acquired knowledge to appropriately determine parameters in the rostering and planning systems to enable a feasible and roster solutions for flight and cabin crew. Roster generation process requires careful setting of the parameters in the system to achieve highest level of productivity and resource utilisation with minimum Productivity pay at the Planning level
    -To work with Flight Operations and Cabin Crew Management to manage the available resource for the roster production and offer alternatives to their flying and office duties in accordance with their requirements and the company dictated rosterable fractions..
    -The job holder must be proactive and anticipate potential rostering problems and formulate solutions to achieve highest level of productivity and utilisation of this resource. The use of specific company and legislative rules along with operational experience is essential to the job holder.


Qualification

Qualifications & Experience:

Experience in an Airline background. Operations experience or resource planning allocation and deployment roles. preferred.


Knowledge/skills:

1.In depth knowledge of regulatory rules governing the use of crew.

2.Knowledge of Crew Planning theory is essential.
