As Manager Database Platforms, you will lead the strategic development and evolution of database technologies across Emirates Group. Deliver secure, resilient, and cost-effective platform services that enable the Group’s digital and AI transformation. Enable the Group’s digital and AI transformation by delivering scalable, cloud-native database platforms that accelerate time-to-market, enhance solution quality, and support agile, modular, and AI-driven architectures through world-class engineering and DevOps practices.
 
In this role you will:

  • Define and execute the Emirates Group Database strategy and roadmap including building and engineering Database as a Service (DBAAS) and creating Platform Engineering teams and practices across private and global public clouds. Establishes purpose and direction for Databases capability, site reliability, platform and cloud engineers to implement DevSecOps pipelines and release on demand practices on top of Database services.
  • Deliver API-driven and AI driven self-service platforms for users to consume Database Services, including automated provisioning and deployments as part of the complete DevSecOps pipelines. Maintain a strategic view of emerging platforms to improve delivery speed and optimize cost.
  • Integrate emerging technologies and best practices across Emirates Group IT. Manage database technology suppliers and global Centres of Excellence, driving continuous improvement through data insights while balancing performance, resilience, security, and agility.
  • Lead migration from on-premises to cloud services with Cloud teams to enhance efficiency, quality, and delivery speed. Provide enterprise-wide database observability, automation, and analytics on performance, capacity, utilization, and security at Agile Release Train and Solution Domain levels.
  • Evolve database offerings aligned with Agile Release Trains. Empower teams with collaboration across Architecture, Cybersecurity, Delivery, Product, Engineering, and QA. Develop and mentor Platform Engineering teams, fostering innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.


Qualification

To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements:

  • Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in designing, building and maintaining enterprise-grade mission critical, scalable technology solutions.
  • 5+ years of core technical engineering experience at scale in cloud adoption.
  • 8+ years of hands-on knowledge and experience of Database Platforms, Engineering and Operations.
  • Managing teams of technical engineering professionals in large solution domain.
  • Experience of Scaled Agile methodology, with modern flexible working practices.
  • Hands on experience in building and maintaining Database, with proven track record of leading a team to transform the efforts of a large-scale engineering organization in digital, data and enterprise domains.
  • In-depth Technical Knowledge of Windows and Linux Based Datacentre OSes, Cloud Platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI, VMWare, Redhat), Databases (Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, Distributed SQL, Cloud Native, etc) Container Management (Openshift, Tanzu, Cloud native)
  • Strong analytical Thinking and Problem-solving skills of complex technical challenges.
  • Demonstrated research skills in innovation, and ability to apply it to the solution domain.
  • Experience in identifying and eliminating inefficiencies to improve cost, delivery flow, throughput, productivity, and quality.
