Description & Requirements
The Engineering Projects section specializes in evaluating, specifying, and negotiating new and used aircraft acquisitions. We oversee the entire process, from initial evaluation and assembly inspection to final delivery and acceptance.
We develop detailed specifications for aircraft and new system installations, including Passenger Entertainment and Connectivity Services (IFE) and Cabin Interiors. Our team ensures that all regulatory requirements, safety standards, functionality, and maintainability are met for each aircraft's entry into service.
As a Manager Engineering Projects, you will be responsible for monitoring all of the projects based on assigned commodities (i.e. systems, Avionics and IFE and airplane level) to ensure they are in line with company set standards and long term vision. Lead a team of assigned Project Engineers to ensure Emirates remain a market leader on future products, emerging technology. Define future plans for new airplanes detailing systems development, cabin customization, and product offering, for Emirates future fleet. Plan for smooth transition from conventional process and procedure to more advance processes by making use of information technology and its application to Airlines Engineering and Operations to contribute to the overall mission of the company.
In this role, you will:
- Accountable for the entire aircraft level program from evolution of configuration, product and system specification build up through to final production. Manage, provide definition, direction, and overview of all active projects (Airplane level, Commodity level, Interiors / IFE, System Level Avionics/Airframe) and project management (path). Provide directions and objectives to the project team to allow them to prepare for technical support of activities, configuration development and on-board implementation prior to aircraft delivery in line with company targets. Provide all required updates in line with current developments within Aviation industry and expansion in Emirates fleet.
- Lead and provide directions for program management, risk management, project monitoring and tracking of major milestone including coordination and status update meetings with suppliers and aircraft manufacturer. Provide status updates to VP - Engineering Projects, consisting of weekly reports, milestone achievements and risk assessment. Communicate program status and key issues to senior management on a regular basis and critical and/or significant events that are impacting the program.
- Review Manufacturer's Standard Specifications, Configuration and Standard Selection documentation and make recommendations of the required configuration appropriate for Emirates.
- Provide directions to translate leadership expectations and stakeholders requirement to detailed technical specifications. Work with procurement to provide leadership evaluation and rating of product based on various performance criteria's such as reliability, durability, in-service issues, users' feedback etc. with recommendation to BFE selection committee. Review relevant terms and conditions of supplier contracts. Support Delivery Managers during delivery phase on product related to quality, functionality, integration issues and commitment items.
- Lead a team of Project Engineers to Manage and process aircraft manufacturers' option packages, option selection, master changes, SCNs and supplier's change request including techno-commercial aspects.
(Airbus) and Master Changes (Boeing). - Manage the projects team and other stakeholders in Initial Technical Co-ordination Meetings (ITCM), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and First Article Inspections (FAI), Software Review Meeting (SRM) of new equipment, implementation and introduction of new features with the relevant suppliers and airframe manufacturers and monitor timely implementation of major projects.
- Manage the Overview of BFE management, budgeting and RFP, BFE status reporting and on-time availability. Monitor and oversee Project Engineers in the preparation of cost benefit studies for major equipment. Present business case to leadership and seek directions on innovations, industry developments, product enhancements and possible implementation onto Emirates airplanes. Introduce innovative and efficient product/features, monitor regulatory requirements and implications on future fleet
selection and/or major modifications. - Initiate and launch new airplane programs in collaboration with all internal stakeholders (Fleet Planning, Service Delivery/Catering. Flight Ops, Procurement- aircraft, SkyCargo, Fleet Technical Management, Maintenance, Materials and others). Manage and coordinate the programs with internal stakeholders throughout various stages such as working groups, configuration/requirements build up, business cases and presentations to ensure functionalities are met.
- Entry into Service management of new type fleet airplanes. Overview and coordinate all activities such as training, provisioning, tooling etc. between Aircraft manufacturer, Suppliers and internal stakeholders for timely preparation of entry into service suppliers proposal versus company specs, and make recommendation to senior management.
- Lead the team and performance management through MyBC, creating development plans and setting smart goals to ensure delivery of SLA and objectives of the department. Provide continuous mentoring, guidance and trainings to ensure the team are well equipped to handle complex program and scenarios.
Qualification
To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements:
- 10+ years of experience, with 5 years in a senior position in project execution or similar position in project management in a reputable Airline.
- Ability to analyse and synthesise technical information, cost impacts and contractual commitments.
- Relationship management, Project / Program management, Training and vendor management.
- Commercial and financial acumen, strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of latest technical developments and industry trends on respective systems and products including technology that will improve productivity of flight crew, maintenance personnel and cabin crew.
- Strong knowledge of current fleet development and any planned short and long solutions.
- Established knowledge of Passenger Entertainment and relevant technology such as digital logic, circuit concept, wireless technology and electronic communication protocols.
