Description & Requirements
Job Purpose:
Support the VPCC with the implementation of Cargo corporate initiatives, route profitability objectives, focussing on attainment of revenue and tonnage targets. Plan and prioritise outstation expenditure to achieve continuous improvement in productivity and support development of outstation training needs. Facilitate changes to business practices and challenge existing mindset to support development of outstation teams to cope with changing needs of the business. Will be responsible for providing active support and working with Cargo Managers to develop business in outstations through periodic reviews and customer/station visits to better understand market and customer needs.
Job Outline:
- Implement commercial strategies and tactical initiatives specific to a region or specific routes and evaluate effectiveness of implementation. Discuss implementation issues with VPCC and outstations and assess success or failure factors. Collaborate with Cargo Centre and Pricing teams to agree corrective actions. Monitor changes to originally envisaged actions with a view to achieve intended objectives of optimising space utilisation and route profitability
- Periodically evaluate route profitability and performance in terms of cargo revenue, tonnage and yield parameters and attainment of commercial objectives. Independently review with outstations, deviations to commercial objectives, establish market conditions analysing available market information and agree actions with outstations to improve station performance.
- Establish resources for outstations in terms of staffing levels and infrastructural requirements. Independently review outstation budget proposals, seek justification for the need for such expenditure. Prioritise expenditure items for every station with a view to achieve established productivity improvement targets/KPIs such as Cost/Revenue ratio and other productivity level indicators..
- Monitor and evaluate outstation productivity indicators on a regular basis with a view to establish resources provided are optimally utilised for the intended purpose, establish causes for deviation and propose remedial actions to ensure the productivity targets are achieved without compromising service quality. Ensure stations are adequately equipped and conform to corporate standards and reflect the established corporate image and brand
- Conduct market reviews of existing markets on traffic potential, current traffic mix, customer base, market opportunities, gain knowledge of surrounding new markets, opportunities and challenges.Visit stations and customers to develop business, During such visits/travel, assess opportunity to introduce tactical initiatives to develop new markets and use available spare capacity at gateway points with a view to gradually increase our market share profitably in such new offline markets and support route profitability.
- Identify key general management issues in outstations impacting outstation performance in consultation with VPCC. Discuss identified pending issues which could be diverse in nature, with concerned departments, initiate action and ensure such agreed actions facilitate resolving identified issues.
- Manage start-up activities for launch of new stations. Research country and market profile to initiate commercial activities. Plan all start-up activities with accountability briefs; Liaise with identified point of contact (which could be an external agency or person), collaborate with HDQ departments to participate in recruitment campaigns, induction of staff to SkyCargo standard operating procedures (SOP), monitor progress of all start up activities are completed within established timelines. Provide onsite support to newly recruited team in the early days of operation.
- Facilitate change management initiatives to ensure new initiatives such as consignee sales, changes in business practices due implementation of new systems yield the desired outcome; Act as a point of contact to review and progress imports sales leads and rates to support consignee sales i.e. generate import loads/revenue in a station as opposed to outstations focussing currently only on export revenues only.
- Participate in working groups along with outstation staff to develop training needs and communicate such training needs to the Training Department for development of appropriate training courses. Agree with Training Department to develop unfulfilled training needs. Monitor effectiveness of training courses in improving service levels, incremental business, reducing operational discrepancies etc.
Qualification
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience in air cargo industry with a minimum of three years experience in supervisory role, capable of undertaking numerical analysis, problem solving and providing management support to outstations.
Knowledge/skills:
Supervisory and administration management, performance measurement and exposure to general management. Knowledge of cargo industry business processes and systems/technology. Ability to work independently with minimal amount of supervision. Good analytical and problem solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills, written and spoken communication skills
