Job Purpose

 The UK Safety and Security Director is a leadership position within dnata Catering & Retail UK, reporting directly to the UK CEO. This is a pivotal role supporting a business with over £600m in revenue, approx. 3,600 colleagues, and operations across 17 airport units, including London Heathrow – the largest and most critical facility in the portfolio.


The role carries strategic accountability for all aspects of safety, security, health, and regulatory compliance, ensuring dnata continues to operate to the highest standards while embedding a strong safety-first culture. With a team of 20 safety professionals, this leader will balance strategic vision with hands-on delivery, influencing at the most senior levels while driving consistent and practical safety outcomes across a complex, multi-site business.


In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive safety, security, and environmental strategy aligned with dnata’s growth ambitions and regulatory obligations.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 20 safety professionals, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure full compliance with UK health, safety, fire, and aviation regulations, proactively managing changes in legislation.

  • Oversee safety and security across both kitchen and airport operations, including incident management, root cause analysis, and fire safety programs.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators and governing bodies, representing dnata as a credible, compliant operator.

  • Drive organisational safety culture change, embedding safety considerations into decision-making at all levels.

  • Support business continuity planning, risk management frameworks, and integration of safety standards into both legacy and new facilities.



Qualification

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in safety and security within a regulated operational environment.

  • A strong track record of building credibility with regulatory bodies and applying complex regulations within a commercial setting.

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing safety teams.

  • Knowledge of fire safety regulations and risk management strategies.

  • Experience managing both ageing property portfolios and the safe development of new facilities.

  • Exceptional influencing, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.


You will have an edge if you have:

  • Aviation or food safety sector experience.

  • Experience introducing technology or innovative approaches to safety management.

  • A proven track record of balancing strategic objectives with day-to-day operational delivery in a complex, multi-site environment.
