As the Manager Base Operations, you will ensure that all Base Operations Maintenance checks conducted on EK aircraft are carried out to the highest possible maintenance standards and safety, most productively and cost-effectively within the approved Annual Budget agreed using all available resources at Engineering's disposal. Manage modification and retrofit programs for EK fleet as required by the company to ensure the product delivered is to the latest standard and highest quality. Collaborate with Engineering Technical Services to ensure any Supplementary Type (ST) /Modification programs remain compliant and are delivered in line with the design.
In this role you will:
- Work with the team to build a performance review culture with use of the MYBC or similar tools to give all staff a clear understanding of what is required of them within the financial year through the use of competencies and goals that align to the departmental vision and provide feedback mechanisms that build lines of communication that work in both directions to give visibility of successes and challenges.
- Create working processes, procedures & policies that ensure that turn around times of checks are adhered to if followed. Give visibility of check progress aligned to the critical path of the check and milestones to ensure progress can be seen. When milestones compromised provide visibility to the company and work on plans that either bring the checks back on time or adjust time lines accordingly.
- Working with the finance team build staff awareness of the commercial aspects of aircraft maintenance and look for cost effective ways to carry out maintenance to the same high standards expected. Build policies that manage component costs and create ownership of materials within the production environment. Compile and justify budget proposals to support the yearly budget plan.
- Create manpower plans for the assigned HMP that will consistently challenge the norms of manpower efficiencies and generate additional resource capacity. Work with Admin teams to ensure staff leave is assigned and used matching the demand profiles for checks. Manage overtime to reduce costs and sickness levels to reduce the burden to the company. Create innovative ideas that will allow manpower to be utilised to their full, with a right first-time policy to cut down on duplication of tasks and subsequent wastage.
- Build a strategy that aligns with the departmental strategy to take Base maintenance into the future. Encourage digital applications and support staff to use the latest technology to do their jobs elevating the product delivery. Review external Base maintenance models and build on ideas to create a hangar of the future today.
- Create a safety culture that embraces SMS in line with CAR part X. Provide tools that allow staff the ability to report threats and incident through the safety reporting system and allow them the ability to take ownership of the shortfalls and be part of the solution. Build on safety briefings to allow daily risks to be identifies and recorded through a risk register and library of risk assessments.
Qualification
To be considered for the role you must meet the below requirements:
- Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent)
- GCAA License and Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent training in Aircraft Maintenance with a reputable Airline or an approved Aircraft Maintenance Organisation.
- 10+ years experience in commercial aviation Base/Line/Operational maintenance, of which 5 years as a Senior Engineer or in a similar position.
- Familiarity with aircraft maintenance databases and information gathering/ reporting systems.
- A thorough working knowledge of all aspects of aircraft maintenance practices and procedures is essential.
- Conversant with air legislation and legal matters that relate to the operation and maintenance of aircraft on an international basis.
